Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur traditionally paid homage to Hijli Martyrs on 16/09/2018 at IIT old building campus in a befitting manner. The programme was presided by the Deputy Director and attended by the Registrar of the Institute. Distinguished guests, elite professors and staff of various departments of IIT Kharagpur and students of the institute and campus schools also attended the programme.
Deputy Director along with distinguished guests paid floral tribute to Hijli Martyrs. Deputy Director Dr.Shriman Bhattacharya had told about the importance of the day. Special guest Dr.Vivekananda Tiwari had discussed nicely on the topic ‘Devotion of Medinipore in Indian freedom movement’. After that students of DAV Model School, IIT Kharagpur sang patriotic songs very nicely and it was appreciated by everyone with a big round of applause. Martyrs Day is observed in memory of an incident of firing on Freedom Fighters in 1931. Our school students had felt the importance of the Martyrs in bringing the freedom of our country.
