Since its inception in the year 2015, June 21st is celebrated as ‘The International Day of Yoga ’all over the world. This idea was proposed by our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. He said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.”
In order to promote Yoga among youth, the 5th International Yoga Day was celebrated by the students and teachers on 21st June 2019, Friday at DAV Model School, IIT Kharagpur with great enthusiasm and vigour.
The celebration started with speech by our Teacher-in-charge .She encouraged students to practice yoga regularly to remain fit and improve concentration. The move is expected to reach out to the students in large numbers, and in turn, help disseminate this valuable information for their well-being.
The Yoga session started with prayer, and systematic practice of different ‘ASANAS” of standing, sitting and laying positions under the instructions of Yoga teachers. During the course of “Yogabhyas”, the Yoga teachers also narrated the usefulness of different “Asanas” as a precautionary measure, in curing many diseases and the usefulness of Yoga in the overall wellbeing of a human being.
To commemorate the day, different competitions like debate, slogan writing, quiz etc. were conducted which was a great opportunity to imbibe the value of discipline to students of all age group. Children got the chance to know how yoga embodies unity of mind and body and spread positive vibes all around.
The school is thankful to CBSE for initiating this under them and also for inculcating Yoga as a part of the syllabus.
