REPORT ON EMPATHY
Parents and teachers influence young people’s abilities to care for others beyond themselves by creating meaningful relationships with them—by ensuring that youth are seen, felt and understood. When adults expose young people to different world views and encourage them to do meaningful community service, youth develop higher levels of empathy and compassion.
Following these golden principles, DAV Model School, IIT Kharagpur had organized a CBSE – activity on ‘Empathy’ on 23.09.2019. In this activity the students of class IX escorted by teachers made efforts to achieve their goal and their ability of being able to understand and take care of what the other person is feeling.
The students willingly volunteered to spend some quality time with the children of Gopali Ashram in Kharagpur, a residence of 25 unprivileged children. An activity of Sit and Draw based on the theme 'Empathy' was organized.
We believe in DAV Model School IIT Kharagpur that
"IF YOU SEE SOMEONE WITHOUT A SMILE, GIVE THEM ONE OF YOURS."
The overwhelming participation and mingling of the children deserve special mention. Students of our school also offered some small gifts as token of love to them. This was to motivate the students towards the necessary trait for the creation of harmonious relationship and for the enhancement of emotional awareness.
‘Empathy’, being one of the ten life skills, teaches one to discover how generosity, patience, forgiveness, tolerance, civic-mindedness, caring, and compassion are vital to peace and human understanding.
