India is a secular country with diversified cultures and significances in their own kind. As an endeavour to solidify the bond of oneness and unification, the country celebrated the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel on 31st October 2019 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day).

In line with the celebrations countrywide, D.A.V. Model School IIT Kharagpur    organized various activities in the school premises in order to extend its heartfelt appreciation about the life and the involvement of the great leader, Sardar Patel , in the veritable contribution during the freedom struggle and to lay a foundation of a unified country fused with oneness. The essence is to infuse values integrated with the knowledge and adoration about the country’s rich heritage in the psyche of the youth.

A throng of activities were organized all through the day to support the cause of promoting unity and celebrating “National Unity Day” in the school premises.

1. A special morning assembly was organized, which started with UNITY PLEDGE, taken by Principal Madam Lopa Chatterjee. Students & teachers took the oath to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation in the spirit of unification of the county. Informative & impactful speech was delivered by the students in Hindi and English on the life, history and the role of Sardar Patel in the freedom struggle to establish a harmonious society.

2. All the students and teachers joined hands to showcase solidarity towards fellow beings and the country as a whole.

3. The message of Unity was spread amongst the students through an impressive CULTURAL PROGRAMME which enthralled the students and teachers as well.

4.This was followed by RUN FOR UNITY around the IIT Kharagpur campus, headed by the Student Council members & students of Senior section, holding banners and placards to spread awareness about Unity among the masses.

5. Students of Middle School engaged in ESSAY WRITING activity, on the Topic -Contribution of Vallabhbhai Patel in National Integration.  

6. A DEBATE Competition was also organized on the Topic – ARE GLOBAL CHALLENGES AFFECTING NATIONAL INTEGRATION? Four teams from each House, namely, Dayanand, Hansraj, Tagore and Gandhi participated in the competition.

All the activities conducted on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas will definitely provide an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our nation.
