RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS - NATIONAL UNITY DAY
National Unity Day, also known as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' is celebrated every year on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister. For his iron will and nerves of steel, he earned the title 'Iron Man of India'.
The government has been observing Sardar Patel's birth anniversary as the "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas" since 2014. He is credited for the merger of over 560 princely states into the Union of India. As part of Patel's birth anniversary celebrations, various programmes are being organised across the country.
In DAV Model School IIT Kharagpur the day was celebrated by the students and teachers who took the Pledge for Unity in the morning assembly. Students also spoke on the contribution of Sardar Patel in unifying the country and emphasized on the importance of National Integration.
Later during the day quiz and debate was organized in the classes to commemorate the day.
Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, sponsored Run for Unity was also a part of the program in which the students of class IX and XI took part encompassing the IIT campus, making the public aware that Strength lies in Unity.
